SHOWMANAGER: James Sutherland @tokyopictureshow

James Sutherland is an award-winning Kiwi screenwriter based in Tokyo, Japan. With experience in front of the camera in film and television he began a stuntman working on projects produced in New Zealand for European audiences, then to large budget Hollywood movies.

He built and taught the BA Hons Physical theatre course at the prestigious East 15 Acting School in London. Then built and ran CITA, an award-winning international theatre company based in Tokyo. He has taught and directed in over nine countries across five continents. He has worked on a number of film, television and commercial projects with award winning Directors in Japan including Takashi Shimizu, Ryojiro Takito、Shunya Ito and Shunnsuke Sato to name a few. 

James moved to focus from visual, physical theatre into screenwriting, he has built a portfolio of award-winning crime pilots and features. His stories center around finding family. He has a Masters in Theatre Directing from Victoria University and the New Zealand Drama School and is a dad to two growing boys of mixed ethnicity who don’t like to listen, but love to eat.
